Application period: 9 January to 20 January 2023

The 66th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) will be held from 13 to 17 March 2023. Side events and exhibitions may be organized by Member States, UN entities, international organizations and NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC.

As the COVID-19 situation in 2022 is unpredictable, the registration for the side events and exhibitions will proceed as per established practice for the time being. Closer to the session, the feasibility of in-person and hybrid side events/exhibitions will be evaluated.

Make sure to consult the guidelines published by the CND Secretariat before applying for a side event!

How to apply for side events

Applications for side events should be made through the online form that will be enabled on 9 January 2023 at 12 am CET (Vienna time).

Side events may be organized by:

  • Member States through their Permanent Mission to the UN
  • UNODC branches, sections or units through the director of the respective divisionUNODC field offices
  • UN entities
  • Intergovernmental Organizations, and
  • NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC

Please be reminded that side event topics need to be relevant to the work of the CND and that Member States cannot be made the focus of an event without their engagement.

Only one event per organizer will be accepted. Efforts will be made to accommodate as many requests as possible that meet the eligibility criteria. Events will be accommodated in order of receipt of the application (“first come, first served”). Events submitted by Member States will be accommodated, before all other submissions.

NEW this year! As in previous years organizations can support multiple events through ‘co-sponsoring’. However this year the main organizer of the event is responsible for collecting all support request and needs to send a final list of ‘supporters’ via email to unodc-sgb.events@un.org with copy to all ‘supporters/co-sponsors’ no later than 15 February 2022.

Events can be organized in the following formats:

  • In-person only format
  • Online only format (you will be responsible for the technical organization of your side event, including the online platform; you will need to provide the meeting link latest by 6 March 2023)
  • Hybrid format (you are expected to run both the in person and online component on your own, only very limited technical support will be available)

Exhibitions

Kindly note that NGO publications including promotional materials should be displayed on the Civil Society tables that will be made available. It is not necessary to apply for exhibition space to display publications.

Applications for exhibitions should be made by submitting the application form to the Secretariat to the Governing Bodies (unodc-sgb@un.org) within the application period. Please note that only complete applications received within the deadlines will be considered. An exhibition application form must be accompanied with a copy of the original design (sketches), and content, or photos.

Efforts will be made to accommodate as many requests as possible that meet the eligibility criteria before the deadline. Requests will be accommodated in the order of receipt of the application (“first come, first served”). Requests submitted by Member States will be accommodated first, followed by other events.

Spaces for exhibitions are available in the Rotunda and M Building (M0E, M01 and M02). The maximum space allocated for each exhibitor is 4 meters (length) and 3 meters (width).
Due to the limited space in the Rotunda, it is reserved for Member States only and slots will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. All other organizers will be allocated slots in the M Building.

All organizers are responsible for the mounting of their exhibits. The respective focal point is required to supervise the installation works at all times.

Each organizer is fully responsible for identifying how much furniture (maximum: 2 panels, 2 tables and 4 chairs) they will need and for sending these requirements to SGB with the application form (Annex 1).
All electronic equipment (TV monitors, computers, projectors, etc.) must be provided by organizers.
