UNODC is collecting inputs in preparation of an Expert group meeting on the topic of Equal access to Justice for all.

Following Resolution 78/227 , titled “Equal Access to Justice for All” recommended by the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) and adopted by the General Assembly, the UNODC is organising an expert gathering on this topic. To prepare for the meeting and report to the 34th CCPCJ, the UNODC invites NGOs to share information on challenges, lessons learned, best practices, and factors that enhance the functioning of criminal justice systems to ensure equal access to justice for all.

These contributions will be included in a background paper to guide the expert meeting discussions.

NGOs are requested to provide input on the following questions:

  1. What primary challenges does your country face in ensuring equal access to justice within the criminal justice system? How do these challenges affect vulnerable groups in your society?
  2. Can you share examples of successful initiatives or policies that address access to justice issues in your country? What key lessons have been learned from these efforts?
  3. What best practices are currently implemented in your criminal justice system to enhance access to legal aid and fair trials? How do these practices improve outcomes for individuals in the system?
  4. What factors have been crucial for successful reforms or improvements in your criminal justice system? How can these factors be replicated or adapted in other contexts or regions to ensure equal access to justice for all?
