The Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats is a U.S.-led international effort to combat the threats posed by the presence of synthetic drugs. The Coalition is a time-bound effort intended to produce action and results in a short period of time, speeding up the global response to the rise in synthetic drugs threats. The Coalition convenes through Working Group and Sub-Working Group meetings. In the Ministerial Declaration on Accelerating and Strengthening the Global Response to Synthetic Drugs, participating governments expressed their commitment to taking into account input from civil society in Coalition objectives.
As part of the efforts to ensure comprehensive and meaningful civil society engagement in the work of the Coalition the Vienna and New York NGO Committees on Drugs (VNGOC & NYNGOC) with the support of the UNODC Civil Society Unit will host a “Civil Society Forum” for the Global Coalition Members, allowing a broad range of civil society organizations to share their expertise on the topics of the Working and Sub-Working Groups.
Two online meetings will be held on 1 February from 8AM to 10AM CET and from 3PM to 5PM CET to allow participation from as many different time zones as possible.
During the meetings Civil Society representatives will have the opportunity to share their views and recommendations on the topics of the (Sub)working Groups in the form of 3min interventions. Civil Society representatives interested in providing more in-depth input (7min presentations) are invited to apply for the panel, that will consist of three civil society representatives sharing concrete recommendations on one of the (Sub)working Group topics.
Please register before 30 January 2024.
