Side-event “Responding to drug-related challenges in the cyberspace: Vulnerabilities and opportunities to engage civil society”

Organised by the UNODC CSU with the support of the Government of Switzerland, the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the VNGOC.
The 2019 Ministerial Declaration identified the increased criminal misuse of information and communications technologies for illicit drug-related activities as one of the challenges to be addressed in order to effectively implement the Joint Global Commitments. Civil Society is an important partner in addressing this and other drug related challenges in cyberspace settings.
The objective of the event is to discuss how civil society work can effectively contribute to addressing crime and other drug-related challenges in the cyberspace. Building on the 2019 Ministerial Declaration and the CND thematic discussions in October 2021, the event will discuss effective strategies and explore how strong partnerships can effectively address these challenges. The event will comprise of presentations from civil society as well as UNODC experts and governments, shining light on promising practices and opportunities for actions.
