The Regional Consultation for Sub-Sahara Africa was organised into three sub-regional consultations.  In Johannesburg (26 – 28 October, 2007) and Nairobi (10 – 11 November, 2007) the consultation was conducted in English.  In Dakar (3 – 4 November, 2007) the consultation was bi-lingual in French and English.

In Johannesburg we were fortunate to have strong support from the Minister for Social Development, Dr Zola Sidney Themba Skweyiya, and sponsorship for a number of South African participants from the Department of Social Development.  The Deputy Minister, Dr Jean Swansom-Jacobs, hosted the consultation dinner and strongly encouraged the involvement of NGOs and civil society in creating and implementing actions aimed at tackling major social problems.  In Nairobi and Dakar the UNODC offices gave considerable support to the consultations and in Nairobi IOGT-NTO sponsored the welcome reception for participants.

By holding three sub-regional consultations and with the sponsorship provided in South Africa, it was possible to bring together a large number of NGOs from many different countries.  The provisional list of participants can be downloaded here.

There is a single unified report prepared drawing from the three sub-regional consultations.  The report is now completed and can be downloaded here.
