This special event was took place on June 12th 2020 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

This special event was held online via Microsoft Teams, with just a handful of people in the Vienna International Centre itself.

The meeting – jointly hosted by CND and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) – was originally meant to happen in March, and marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The event aimed to raise awareness of the commitments made in 1995 in Beijing, highlighting the role and relevance to the work of the CND, CCPCJ and UNODC – as well as discussing how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting women and girls and further deepening pre-existing inequalities.

The VNGOC were represented on the panel by Board member Penny Hill, and selected three other NGO speakers through the usual open call and process. The Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was also invited to nominate speakers. Unfortunately, due to time, only one of our additional speakers was able to present right at the end of the meeting (Ms. Ananada Maudy from AKSI – Action for Justice in Indonesia). The other participants were invited to upload their statements to the event website instead.

Civil Society participants:

A written record of the event is available on the CND Blog including all statements from member states.
