Side Events at CND 2021

In light of the COVID-19 situation, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs has decided (in a silence procedure with deadline 22 January) that all side events will be held virtually only.

All organizers are kindly asked to independently make all organizational and technical arrangements for their online events on a platform of their choice and to provide to the Secretariat latest by 5 March 2021

  • the link to the event,
  • as well as a contact point that can be published for any questions related to the event.

The Secretariat will prepare a programme and provide the links to the side events to all participants of the 64th session of the Commission.

Applying for side-events at the 64th CND

APPLICATION PERIOD: 11 January to 22 January 2020

Applications for side events should be made by submitting the application form to the Secretariat to the Governing Bodies (unodc-sgb@un.org) within the application period

 Side events may be organized by:

  • Member States through their Permanent Mission to the UN
  • UNODC branches, sections or units through the director of the respective divisionUNODC field offices
  • UN entities
  • Intergovernmental Organizations, and
  • NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC

Only one event per organizer will be accepted. Efforts will be made to accommodate as many requests as possible that meet the eligibility criteria. Events will be accommodated in order of receipt of the application (“first come, first served”). Events submitted by Member States will be accommodated, before all other submissions.

Organizers are kindly invited to follow the guidelines for side events in 2021. The guidelines contain relevant information on organizational matters and build upon the lessons learnt from previous sessions.
