The UNODC Prevention Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (UNODC PTRS) is planning to host a technical (informal) expert working group on “Treatment of mental health including drug use disorders in prison settings” from 29 November to 1 December 2021.
Please note that the meeting will be held in English and no interpretation will be provided.
The technical meeting is part of a project to work on a handbook on the topic that could become a follow up to the existing UNODC/WHO publication “Treatment and care for people with drug use disorders in contact with the Criminal Justice System: Alternatives to Conviction or Punishment” (UNODC/WHO, 2019) but this time the focus will be not on treatment as an alternative, but on treatment in prisons. With the idea that the two publications could be understood as interlinked ideally, with alternatives being considered first and prisons being the measure of last resort, where then also evidence-based interventions to be offered.
Please share this with your respective partners and networks to ensure a wide as possible opportunity to engage.
